CMW Day 2 (Another excellent day)

Hey everybody,

Picked up the hard copy of the schedule, and, frankly, it's even more intimidating than online.

So many choices, none of them wrong. But you gotta dive in sometime, right?

Here are my picks for Wednesday. Read, consider, and possibly ignore, but GO!!!

The Bovine ... Bloody Diamonds, Bella Clava and others

The Dakota Tavern... Soho Ghetto, Slaughter Beach, Lightmares (Sudbury punk)

Hard Luck Bar .... Megafauna, Sleepy Sun  (San Francisco Psychedelia)

The Hideout ... Atom and the Volumes, Indicator Indicator (Winnipeg) and friends

Painted Lady ... Animalia *, What Model Citizens et al

The Piston ... The Booze Bombs (rockabilly, baby!) and others

Rancho Relaxo .. if you missed 'em last night, Almighty Rhombus * (Sudbury) and Femme Accident

Velvet Underground ... Papermaps *, Pooma (dark pop, Helsinki)

See you tomorrow. (You think this is hard, the playlist for this week is going to be impossible to choose)

Cheers!

CMW! CMW! CMW! Day One

Hey everybody,

It's here! Canadian Music Week, with more venues and artists than you can shake a stick at.

And a schedule that would make your head spin.

Good news, though. Many of the performers will be at more than one venue throughout the week, so if you are torn (as many of us are) you can try to have your cake and eat it too by checking to see who is playing multiple times on the CMW website.

Still.

A lot of work to pick where to go.

So, if you trust me in any capacity (or simply read this and then do something else) here are my picks for the first day. (Mind you, any and all will be great.)

Charlie's Gallery ... Gray and Pete Van Dyke and the Second Hand * plus others

Cherry Cola ... Awake at Last, High Heels Lo Fi *  and Hormoans (this promises to be loud and fun)

Clinton's ... Indoor Voices and Almighty Rhombus *

Johnny Jackson ... Sky Terminal et al

Rancho Relaxo ... Wildheart and Navigator Black and the Indighost (check out their music files on

the website. I liked "Neon Highway")

Tattoo ... Dirty Nil! * The C'Mons and a host of others

Opera House ... The Sick Kids (Spesh K and Tiggs *) , Swollen Members and a solid lineup

(May be hard to get in)

The Piston ... Shaky Knees * and Maps plus much more

or if you are a fan of silliness... Kenny and Spenny at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre

Stay tuned, more to come in the days ahead.

And remember, my mantra is always "There are no wrong choices at CMW"

Cheers!

Ruby Slippers April 25 7-8 pm

Hey everybody,

The early bird gets the worm! Because of an insane amount of work during the day this week, Cal the Wonderdog and I got to it and pulled all sorts of goodies for this week's playlist rather than loafing in front of the radio. Gotta say, the evening literally flew by, perhaps this will become an evening thing.

Some old favorites (comfort food), some cuts from left field (living dangerously) and a few new arrivals in the inbox (love those surprises) (Guess which ones are which?!?)

So settle down, put your feet up and let the games begin.

Houdini ... Teenage Kicks * (Summer Sampler EP 2014, drops in TO April 25)

Would You Stay Now ... Left Alone

One Way Leading To A Dead End ... The Ins and Outs *

Members Only ... Tin Bangs *

Born Under Punches ... Talking Heads

Reincarnation ... Mass Assembly *

Little Worm ... Panic *

Mirage ... Siouxsie & The Banshees

Sure As The Weather ... Amos The Transparent *

You're With The Band ... Shoot The Stork *

New York City Hotel Blues ... Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos

Double Feature ... Bucky Quagmire *

I'm No Good ... Greg Clarke *

You Can't Get It Back ... Gentleman Reg *

Outside Woman Blues ... Cream

Paranoimia ... The Art Of Noise (I'll get this one in eventually)

That's it, that's all.

And as always, thanks for listening.

ONLY TWO DAYS LEFT

Hey everybody!!!

Well by now you know that the debate with the mayoral candidates didn't happen. And if you listened in on Sunday, you would have heard our station manager explain that the final organization of the debate was completely put on hold to attend to the sudden and total loss of the transmitter.
Of course, no one ever seems to put two and two together when situations collide, but there it is.
Bad timing, communication breakdown, and all the rest of it. But in the end, the station continues, the volunteers keep showing up and put their hearts and souls into the content that comes into your cars, living rooms, computers and other devices. That, my friends will never change as long as the station is in existence.

The reality is that there are only two more days left in this membership drive. We are still quite a distance from the amount needed to get that transmitter, and I would hope, if you have not staked a claim on CIUT with a donation, you will do so now.

I, along with other volunteers, will be on the phones this evening and tomorrow to hear from you.
Our numbers are 416-946-7800 or you can go to the website and donate with Paypal, even if you don't have an account. The info is there, step by step, www.ciut.fm/donate.

All the best and thanks for listening.
