Ruby Slippers April 25 7-8 pm

Hey everybody,

The early bird gets the worm! Because of an insane amount of work during the day this week, Cal the Wonderdog and I got to it and pulled all sorts of goodies for this week's playlist rather than loafing in front of the radio. Gotta say, the evening literally flew by, perhaps this will become an evening thing.

Some old favorites (comfort food), some cuts from left field (living dangerously) and a few new arrivals in the inbox (love those surprises) (Guess which ones are which?!?)

So settle down, put your feet up and let the games begin.

Houdini ... Teenage Kicks * (Summer Sampler EP 2014, drops in TO April 25)
Would You Stay Now ... Left Alone
One Way Leading To A Dead End ... The Ins and Outs *

Paranoimia ... The Art Of Noise (I'll get this one in eventually)

That's it, that's all.
And as always, thanks for listening.

ONLY TWO DAYS LEFT

Hey everybody!!!

Well by now you know that the debate with the mayoral candidates didn't happen. And if you listened in on Sunday, you would have heard our station manager explain that the final organization of the debate was completely put on hold to attend to the sudden and total loss of the transmitter.
Of course, no one ever seems to put two and two together when situations collide, but there it is.
Bad timing, communication breakdown, and all the rest of it. But in the end, the station continues, the volunteers keep showing up and put their hearts and souls into the content that comes into your cars, living rooms, computers and other devices. That, my friends will never change as long as the station is in existence.

The reality is that there are only two more days left in this membership drive. We are still quite a distance from the amount needed to get that transmitter, and I would hope, if you have not staked a claim on CIUT with a donation, you will do so now.

I, along with other volunteers, will be on the phones this evening and tomorrow to hear from you.
Our numbers are 416-946-7800 or you can go to the website and donate with Paypal, even if you don't have an account. The info is there, step by step, www.ciut.fm/donate.

All the best and thanks for listening.

Ruby Slippers for April 11/14 Membership Drive Show: The Transmitter is Dead, Long Live the Transmitter.

Hey everybody,

Not only is this week our fundraising membership drive but last Sunday the transmitter was declared beyond repair. Sooo....all the money we raise will go into buying a new digital replacement. We are currently using a rental to replace the power amp that has been keeping the station on the dial in Toronto, and tomorrow, there ought to be about 60-70 % coverage of our usual broadcast range.
Good fix for now, but temporary and a fraction of the wattage we are licenced for.

This show is all about connecting with the listening audience and hopefully getting the support we need to make things right. To this end, the playlist this week is fun, loud and full of energy. (Don't I always say that?) Rock on! Dance your face off! And please make a donation to the cause.

Over The Rainbow ...Me First and the Gimme Gimmes  (did you know the Ramones covered this
                                             song too???)
Maybe Tomorrow (Littlest Hobo) ... Prince Colwyn *
Da Doo Ron Ron/I Wanna Be Sedated ... the Dollyrots
Ace Of Spades ... The Bloody Five *
Red Quarter ... PS I Love You *
John Drums ... Grids *
Your Friends My House ... Filthy Haanz *
What a Biddy Is ... Navy *
Blue is Red ... Jets  Overhead *
Polaroid ... The Diodes *
Young Limbs Numb Hymns ... Sexbeat
Strange Animal (Gowan Cover) ... The Acorn *
Rock and Roll Love Letter ... Gary and the Gripweeds
Ding Dong ... Klaus Nomi

This is the list I will be choosing from. Hang on to your teeth, it oughta be a wild ride.

And as always, thanks for listening.

Dude Where's My Station?

Hey everybody!

Our old workhorse, the analog transmitter on top of one of the office towers in downtown TO, has faltered.  Crew is working around the clock to get it back up and running to full potential (15,000 watts) as soon as humanly possible, but in the meantime, the station is available on low power to the downtown core, on iTunes, online, cable and Streem.com, radioflag.com and other streaming services.
This points out more than ever the importance of donations and support from the listening community.
The equipment is over 30 years old, and was thought to have been refurbished when we got it.
Please consider donating during the Spring Membership Drive.  It could make the difference between a powerful clean signal and static.

Cheers

Carol B

Spring Membership Drive

Hey everybody,

It's that time again, when the flowers are blooming, the birds are singing and the shorts are coming out of the closet.

Not.

OK, so what will keep our spirits up as things slowly come to life again? Hmmm?
Well, that would be the sounds of the only independent alternative community radio station in the GTA and beyond. (I am of course referring to CIUT 895 in Toronto)
We continue, day and night, holidays and in between days, to bring you what you can't get on any other station. Different perspectives on the world we live in. Voices who would otherwise never be heard. Music from the past and brand new sounds of the present. (We are working on getting future stuff too, but without Tesla, it's posing a wee bit of a problem)
We are the sound of your city.
But we need your help to keep this party going.
I wouldn't ask you to do what I am not willing to do myself. Have already donated to a mitt full of shows I listen to and love.
So please find it in your heart to call on April 11th at 7 pm (shameless self promotion) or any time from April 9th forward at 416-946-7800 * and let us know that alternative radio matters.

As Red Green was fond of saying "We are all in this together".

And as always, thanks for listening.

Ruby Slippers April 4 7-8 pm

Hey everybody,

We are finally beginning to think maybe perhaps spring is on the doorstep. And with that comes the CIUT membership drive to keep the station alive! If you have donated in the fall, thanks so much for your support! And if you weren't able to, here is a great chance to help the only independent alternative radio station in the GTA continue to bring you the awesome (if somewhat strange) programming you have grown to love.  A week's worth of Tim Horton's  ($25)  would make you a member of the station, and ensure it keeps on keeping on. (C'mon, we all spend at least that at Tim's right?)

Think about it.

Anywho, here's this week's playlist. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did putting it together.

Do You Want To Feel Happy? ... Weird Mormons
Last Stop: This Town ... Eels
Whadaya Know? ... Hexes and Ohs *
Sweetheart What Have You Done ...Keaton Henson
Mother Goose ... Jethro Tull
Psychic Guys With Plastic Bags ... Filthy Haanz *
Welcome ... Hey Rosetta! *
Wasted Youth ... Spectre Hearts *
Teenage Love Made Me Insane ... The High Dials *
Walk On The Wild Side ... The Flowers From Hell *
Bullet Proof nothing ... Simply Saucer *
Freak Show ... SkyBurnsRed
Dead... House of Haunt *
Wild One ... Teenage Head *
We Let The Shadow In ... Kashka *
Chemical ... New order
Black or White ... Lajon Witherspoon et al

And as always, thanks for listening.
