Ruby Slippers Feb. 28 7-8 pm

Hey everybody,

Weird collection this week, kind of at a loss to explain it. I do, however, have to thank Moondog Ballroom for sharing an awesome collection of rockabilly/psychobilly recordings, "Zombie Night In Canada 2". Had a lot of fun with that, gotta say.
And while we are on the subject of thanking folks, the Spectre Hearts are doing a gig at Hart House tomorrow, Feb. 27 so if you are looking at this before the show, check them out. So, as the song says:

That's it kids. See you next week.
And as always, thanks for listening.

A Nod to an Ex Pat

Hey everybody,

I seldom post events on this blog unless it has something to do with a festival.
But this is in my hometown, so had to mention it.

Will Black, a Canadian living and performing in Bermuda, for crying out loud, is going to be playing at the Moonshine Cafe on Kerr St in Oakville tonight at 8 pm. Although a rocker, his set will be acoustic and work making the trip! Have played his music on the show and had enthusiastic feedback!
http://www.willblack.com/homepage/

He will be playing at the Central Friday Feb. 21 (tomorrow) same Bat-time.

As supporting Canadian talent is at the heart and soul of community radio, I always welcome suggestions of music  and notifications of performances.  There's so much talent in this country, let's work together to spread the love.

See you tomorrow at 7 pm live to air.

Over and out! ;)

Ruby Slippers for Feb. 21 7-8 pm

Hey everybody,

Did you survive the day of hearts and flowers? Family Day? Another snow fall that wasn't cleared away? How's about the flood they are predicting due to a melt this week?

Well if you didn't answer yes to all of these things, it's time to take a deep breath, put on some good music and start over again.  I know I will be, and maybe together we can hum, dance and sing along while starting over with a clean slate. Or at the very least, keep a positive attitude while pressing the "reset" button on life.

Boardwalk ... The Implicate Order *
Glory (lst version) ... The Acorn *
Boy With A Gun ... Sea State *
In the Mirror ... The Sea The Sea
Lake ... Anna Domino
Out of Control ... Little Creatures *
Magic ... Joan As Police Woman
I Wanna Be Adored ... The Ravonettes
Soul Love ... Austra/CFCF (cover : Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars) *
Black Is Good ... Young Rival * (Hamilton)
Primary ... The Cure  (I'm kind of on a Cure kick this month)
Vintage ... Will Black * (playing in Oakville and Toronto this week Feb. 20/21)
Too Young To Love ... The Big Pink
Catalan Atlas ... Mire *

See you on the other side.
And as always, thanks for listening

Ruby Slippers Feb 7 7-8 pm

Hey, Snow Bunnies!

As piles of the white stuff continue to mount outside, there is no time like the present to pull together the playlist for this week's show! Have some fun additions... radio debut for Sea State with "Rescue Me" from their album "Boy With A Gun", something new from The Rising Few, and Doug Norquay from the album "Giant Pig" (reference to a massive concrete pig used as an advertisement for a meat shop in Shakespeare, Ontario) plus a whole lot more. Be sure to add more marshmallows to the hot chocolate and settle back for a weird and wonderful hour.

Sinners On St. Laurent.... The Rising Few (Montreal) *
Rescue Me... Sea State (New! Heard here first!) *
How It Goes ... Lauren Mann and the Fairly Odd Folk *
Rhythm ... Anna Domino
Freaks ... The Hawk In Paris (from the album Freaks and Outcasts...I can relate)
The Day That I was Born ... Doug Norquay *
Coffee Stained Pages ... Epic Rain (or snow. Snow would work too)
How Good Does It Feel ... Empires (new)
Middle (Matt Batey Remix) ... Cumulus
Radiowave Blockade... Elizabeth *
My Heart Is Pinned To Your Sleeve ... The High Dials *
Dear Confessor ... Immaculate Machine *
Don't Take My Sunshine Away ...Graham Colton with Wayne Coyne
Michael.... Goodbyemotel
Parables ... Rebekah Higgs *

So that's it.
If you are in the path of Old Man Winter, may you have a warm and cheery snow day.
And as always, thanks for listening

OK. So I will quit bitching about the Grammys

Hey everybody,

Seems the whole Grammy copyright of the finale performance has been at least temporarily thwarted.
Thanks to #DirtyGlitter from Radioflag for this link.

Maybe now I can move on ;)

Cheers! Enjoy Super Bowl!
